This program covers the 3 mandatory common core modules required for anyone wanting to work in a surface mine environment. The modules include:

  • Work Safely in the Job Environment (U5030)
  • Perform General Lockout and Tag on Prime Movers and Other Related Equipment (U5031)
  • Operate Hand and Power Tools (U5032).

This is a fully online program and a certificate will be awarded to successful participants upon completion of the program. There is no audio to the program.

It is important to note that this is the theory portion only and to become fully accredited by the Ministry of Labour, Immigartion, Training and Skills Development (MLTSD) under the Surface Miner Program, participants must return to their workplace and demonstrate their skills and their understanding of the company’s specific requirements—including government legislation, company standards, and manufacturer specifications—to a qualified trainer and be signed off and registered with the MLITSD by their company’s signing authority. The employer, as the designated signing authority, will submit all documentation on your behalf. 

This is a self-directed course and should take you approximately 4 – 6 hours. You can start and stop it at any time. It does not have an expiry date.

Once you pass your course you can print your certificate.

LENGTH: 6 HOURS

You must have unique emails for each person being registered for the course - you cannot register multiple people under the same email address

  • Training may be paused or resumed at any time.
  • You may require additional workplace specific training by your employer.
  • A minimum score of 75% is required to pass this course.
  • You will have 2 attempts to pass and your final score will be printed on your certificate.

A student is anyone in (or returning to/starting in the fall) High School, College, University, Private Skills Training School, or who is participating in their apprenticeship for their respective trade.

Day rates are available for companies booking full classes. Additional fees such as travel costs may be on top of the training fee depending on distance.
